ADVENT WEEK 3 – PART THREE
If we want to know about relationships and right living, we look to Jesus. If we want to know about mercy and forgiveness, we look to Jesus. If we want to know about prayer and trust in God, we look to Jesus. If we want to know about justice and personal responsibility, we look to Jesus. If we want to know what it means to live a life of love, to live like we should – we look to Jesus. Knowing that Jesus is our light means that we look to him for the answers to all life’s questions, to all our longings, all our needs.
To be people of the light is to let God’s light shine in us and through us. Everything we do must point towards Jesus: the values we have, the attitudes we hold, the words we speak, the example we show. Anyone who sees us must see the light of Christ aflame in us. We are people who refuse to let the darkness overpower us.
That’s a big challenge, especially today, when many believers can be tempted to conceal their Christianity out of fear or embarrassment or risk of ridicule. But the Christian never hides because, on fire with love of Christ, the Christian is a point of light who always shines bright.
This Advent season invites us to shine today and every day. Let God’s light shine in you, so that all will know that hope has broken into our broken world and that darkness has been overcome.
