Monastery of St Alphonsus,
30th June 2020
Dear friends of the Community,
We, the Redemptoristine Community are looking forward to welcoming you back to our Chapel to share in the experience of community and communion as we pray with each other in the celebration of the Eucharist. We are grateful for your presence with us through the webcam these last few months and for your constant support and prayer.
The perpetual lamp in honour of Our Mother of Perpetual Help has burned steadily before her shrine during the lockdown in remembrance of you.
We are happy to announce the re-opening of our chapel on Sunday 5th July for Mass at 9.30am.
The following are the proposed changes to ensure your safety as we welcome you back:

  • Our capacity in the chapel at any one time, excluding community and celebrant is 21. We ask that you register your interest and book a place by contacting Sr. Máire Bríd on 086 1890853. Please ring or text before 2pm Monday-Friday. You should not come to the monastery unless you have been allocated a confirmed place by Sr Máire Bríd.
  • In view of reduced capacity, and out of consideration for others, we encourage you to attend Mass at the Monastery once a week. There is a dispensation from Sunday and Holy Day obligations.
  • Those who book Anniversary or Month’s Mind Masses will be asked to limit the number who will attend to 10 people.
  • Please keep to the right when entering and exiting the chapel.
  • A hand sensor sanitiser is available for use on entry and exit.
  • Please maintain 2 metres distance from each other inside and outside of the chapel.
  • Please sit in the seats that are marked out with numbers to ensure ‘social distancing’. You will be given a number when booking a place.
  • Please bring a mask with you and wear it at all times, except when receiving Holy Communion.
  • Please refrain from participation in singing unless from behind a mask.
  • The chapel will be closed immediately after Mass.
  • Collection boxes are placed on the wall if you would like to support the Church and Share collections which are clearly marked
  • The toilet may only be used for emergencies and it is required that you sanitize it after use. Necessary cleansing and disposable items are provided.
These new arrangements are essential at present in order to ensure your safety, and also to comply with the Framework document from the Irish Bishops’ Conference and the guidelines prepared by the Dublin Diocese.
Just as we are trying to ensure your safety, we ask that you please ensure our safety also. We will review the situation over time and make adjustments as necessary. We regret the inconvenience and the inevitable disappointments that these arrangements may cause you. We ask for your patience and understanding at this time.
We want to assure you of our prayer for you, your families and all your intentions at this time. Since we are unable to speak with you in the Chapel please feel welcome to email, phone or write to us with your prayer intentions.
We thank God for helping us all through this difficult COVID-19 trial. We pray for all those who have died and for all those mourning the loss of loved ones at this time. We give thanks for everyone working on the frontline or helping others in any capacity. May we continue to support each other.
May God bless you,
In Jesus, Our Redeemer,
The Redemptoristine Nuns
